When you acquire a frequency from UltraDAO, the thing you receive is concrete: a small signed firmware program, about six kilobytes, that your device verifies and plays. There is no streaming, no subscription, and no account tier. A frequency is either in your library or it is not. This post describes how titles get into a library today — bought, included, gifted, or granted — and the one rule that governs all of them.
The short version: frequencies are sold on the website, they appear in your library in the UltraNFC app, and an NFC tap flashes them to the device. One frequency, 100 Hz, belongs to every account from the moment it is created. And during this early period, a meaningful share of most libraries arrives as gifts.
The marketplace, as it works today
The marketplace lives on the website. Paid titles are ten dollars each, flat, through a standard card checkout. Free titles are marked FREE and can be added to your library at no charge. That is the entire pricing model — no bundles, no credits, no recurring fees. Buy a title once and it is in your library.
Purchases happen on the website; the library lives in the app. Sign in to the UltraNFC app on your phone with the same account and everything you own is waiting there. To use a title, you hold the phone to the device's NFC zone. The transfer is CRC-checked, and the payload's signature is verified against keys provisioned by UltraDAO — a bad signature never lands. Installs are stateless: flashing any program over any other produces an identical result, with the factory firmware and per-device calibration untouched.
100 Hz is the permanent baseline
Balance, the 100 Hz program, is included with every account from the moment you sign up, and every device we ship comes preloaded with it. This is deliberate. The device should run a real waveform on day one with nothing else purchased, and there should be no version of the catalog where the baseline disappears behind a price. 100 Hz is the permanent free floor — not a trial, not a promotion.
Gifting is a first-class idea
Gifting is not a marketing afterthought here; it is one of the main ways frequencies move right now. Two things are true during this early cohort. First, new confirmed accounts receive a curated set of frequency packages at no charge — titles we have tested and are comfortable placing in every new library. Second, device buyers receive a gift drop shortly after they get set up with the app, so the hardware arrives into a library with something in it.
We want to be precise about what this is and is not. It is how the early cohort works, while the catalog is small and the people showing up early are effectively co-testing the system with us. We are not promising the same arrangement holds forever; as the catalog grows, the mix of free, gifted, and paid will likely change, and we would rather say that plainly now than walk it back later.
One thing will not change, because it is a principle rather than a program:
A gift that can be silently taken back is not a gift.
Granted frequencies are never revoked. Once a title is in your library — bought, gifted, or granted — it stays there. Ownership that can be quietly deleted from a server is not ownership, so the gifting system is held to the same standard as the store.
Granted through research
Some frequencies are also granted through taking part in research. UltraDAO exists to fund and run studies in ultrasound neuromodulation, and some titles reach libraries as grants to people who take part in that work. An honest note on the catalog
The catalog is young. Today it holds plain single-frequency programs, each with a codename — Velvet at 20 Hz through Zephyr at 1500 Hz, with Balance at 100 Hz among them — and a smaller set of nested programs, such as Dream State, a 39 Hz envelope shaping a 1755 Hz carrier. Four titles are paid at ten dollars; the rest are free or gifted. That is a small library, and we would rather describe it accurately than round it up. It is growing, and the mechanisms above — the marketplace, the free baseline, the gifts, the research grants — are how it will keep growing.
