Android: Google Play or direct download

Updated Nov 3, 2026← All help topics

Android phones can get UltraNFC two ways. Both are the same app.

Both routes are on the Get the app page. For Play, use the Google account that’s signed in on the phone for every step. It’s often not the address you bought your device with.

Switching between them

Uninstall the one you have first. The two are signed differently, so Android refuses to install one over the other, often with a plain “App not installed”. Uninstalling only removes the app: your account, your library and your device are untouched. Sign in again afterwards.

Which one do I have?

If you installed it by downloading a file from our website and allowing your browser to install it, you have the direct download. If you joined the tester group and installed from the Play Store, you have the Play version.
